Nigerian Pop Star D'Banj Named Best African Act At 17th MOBO Awards

D'banj clinched the Best African Act award at the 17th edition of the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards held on November 3 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.
Organised by MTV Base Europe Music Awards, D'Banj beat the likes of P-Square, Amadou and Mariam, Cabo Snoop, Camp Mulla, Sarkodie, Fally Ipupa, Fatoumata Diawara, Spoek Mathambo and The Very Best.

Top winners at the awards include 25 year old singer/songwriter, Emeli Sande who won the Best Female, Best Album and Best R&B/Soul awards. Best Male Act and Best Hip Hop/Grime was won by Hip-hop artist, Plan B.

The highlight of the night was the Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Dionne Warwick and Mobo Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music presented to TLC.

Wizkid beat D'banj and Seun Kuti to win the Best African Act award in 2011. Previous Best African Acts include Nneka, Tuface, and 9ice.
