Oke-Ogun people call for creation of own state

THE people of Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State have called for the carving out of a state for them from the current Oyo State.
At a summit convened at the weekend by Senators Robert Koleoso, Gbenga Babalola and Hosea Agboola in Iseyin, under the auspices of Oke-Ogun Collective, the people resolved to support the clamour for the amendment of the 1999 Constitution to accommodate state creation, especially the creation of Oke-Ogun State.
According to a communiqué issued at the end of the summit, which was signed by the three conveners, the desire to have the state was hinged on the fact that the Oke-Ogun area of the state “has been adjudged as one of the most neglected areas in Nigeria. The region lacks growth and development in the area of infrastructure and provision of social amenities.”
The people also supported their agitation for the creation of Oke-Ogun State with the fact that the area comprised 10 local governments out of the 33 in the state and covered a total of 13,537 Square Kilometre.
“It is a land of both mineral and agricultural presence. The inhabitants are homogenous and share cultural affinity,” it stated.
