Man jailed for violating 12-yr-old daughter — Another rapes 17-yr-old, feigns sickness

AN Oredo Magistrate Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State, has sentenced a 47-year-old man, Godwin Allu, to seven years imprisonment with hard labour for having canal knowledge of his daughter.
The accused, who pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of having canal knowledge of his 12-year-old daughter, Blessing, three times, was said to have committed the offence punishable under section 218 of the Criminal Code cap. 48 vol. II of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 Law, as applicable to Edo State.
Delivering judgement in the case, Chief Magistrate P. E. Asemota, expressed satisfaction that the accused voluntarily pleaded guilty to the crime and pronounced him guilty as charged.
“That this convict had carnal knowledge of a 12-year-old child on three separate occasions is bad enough. It is heart-rendering that he was doing it with his own daughter, who even had blood stain on her clothes on the day this incest was exposed.”
Chief Magistrate Asemota, who observed that cases of sexual offenses was on the increase in  her jurisdiction, said it was necessary that the court joined other stakeholders in taking serious stand in order to wipe it out “before the society’s moral fabric is completely destroyed.”
State counsel, Miss. L. A. Asaka, told the court that on November 20, 2012, one Mrs Verlaine Enemaku, reported the case at the charge room of the Central Juvenile Welfare Centre of the Nigeria Police in Benin, after being told by the headmistress of Obaseki Primary School, Benin, that the victim was discovered to have blood stain on her uniform.
The complainant further stated that the victim told the headmistress of her school that her father had sex with her three times at different occasions.
The victim, who was admitted and treated at the Central Hospital, Benin, was later discharged and taken to Cole Orphanage Home for care and protection.
Meanwhile, A 28-year-old man, Sylvester Ogbebor, has been arrested by the Osun State Police Command for allegedly raping a 17-year-old student (names withheld) in Ile-Ife, in the early hours of November 28, 2012.
The victim, who resides in a unisex hostel on Ife-Ibadan road, Ile-Ife, reported that she was raped by Ogbebor of Alawode road, Ile-Ife, on the said day, after he deceived her into believing that he was sick and needed help.
The girl said the suspect called her on phone that he was very sick and she should help him with some pain relief medicine, which made her to get up from bed to attend to him, since they were friends.
Little did she know that she was being tricked by the suspect who lived in an isolated area, until he locked the door and sexually assaulted her after a lot of threats.
Before he raped her, the victim said Ogbebor ordered her to remove her clothes, after which he took her pictures with his mobile phone with the threat that he would post them on the facebook should she report the matter.
After having his way, the victim said she escaped from the room and was rushed to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, for medical examination. The suspect, was however, apprehended by the girl’s relations while he was trying to escape in his car.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Folasade Odoro, confrimed the story, saying that he would be arraigned in court as soon as investigation was completed.
