The
Niger state Commissioner of works, Enginer Abubakar Baba Jibreel, says
the state government has concluded plans to expend the sum of N3.1
billion on critical infrastructure across the three senatorial zones of
the state .
He disclosed this yesterday in Minna while addressing journalists
after the state executive council meeting, adding that N58m of the
amount will be spent on the construction of access roads in Gauraka in
Tafa local government area of the state and the dualization of the
Bida-Dokoza road which will cost N1.7billion.
The commissioner who was represented by the Commissioner for
Livestock and Fisheries Development, Dr Isah Yahaya Vatsa, disclosed
that the upgrading of works on the Lagos road in Kontagora to enable the
project meet the status of a Trunk ‘A’ road will cost N84m.
He said that contracts for all the projects have been awarded and
work has commenced on them but charged the contracting firms handling
the jobs to work in accordance with the specifications to complete the project within the time given.
Also, the Managing Director of the Niger state Road Maintenance
Agency, Engineer Umar Sani, said that the agency has spent over N600m on
the rehabilitation and maintenance of failed sections of roads in many
parts of the state.
The projects he said the agency handled were the rehabilitation of
the Minna to Bida road and that of a bridge at Kpakungu in the
outskirt of Minna the state capital.
He said that the agency constructed the some access roads at the
College of Education Minna in preparation for the upgrading of the
institution to a Specialized university of education.
