The
Coalition of Self Determination Group has urged governors of the six
South-West states to collaborate in reconstructing the burnt palace of
Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
In a statement on Wednesday
by the its Chairman and Secretary-General, Dayo Ogunlana and Razaq
Olokobo respectively, the group said it was important that the governors
made the rebuilding of the palace a priority because it (palace) is the
custodian of the collective ancestral heritage of the Yoruba.
The group said, “The palace is the custodian of our collective
ancestral heritage which need to be protected. Besides, the task of
rebuilding the palace to modern taste is the duty of the South-West
governors.”
While sympathising with the monarch, the group said his “true children will rebuild the palace to the proverbial line of “more beautiful edifice replaces the burnt palace”.
The palace was gutted by fire on January 8. About 21 rooms were said
to have been razed while artifacts and other property were also
destroyed.
