Nothing Wrong With Polio Vaccination – Sheikh Gumi

Sheik GumiA renowned Islamic scholar and a doctor by profession, Sheikh Ahmad Mahmud Gumi, has told the BBC Hausa Service that there is nothing suspicious  about the polio vaccine, and that the eradication of polio is very essential in making a healthy society.
He said those opposing the exercise should know that it was not made just for Nigerians alone; rather, it is for the whole world by the assembly of world doctors for the consumption of all.
Gumi also told BBC that the Muslims that believe polio vaccinations cause infertility among women or that it as a western conspiracy to reduce the Muslim population should seek more information about it from their doctors and not to be saying untrue and unconfirmed statement about it, as passing such wrong messages will hurt the society.
He further said it was alarming for any normal person to wake up and find his society full of diseases caused by polio. He said people should know that a highly reputable palace like that of the Emir of Kano would not allow anything that could cause infertility among women. Therefore, those that have complaint or observations should please channel it through the Nigerian Medical Association for proper action.
Nigeria is one of the only three countries where polio is still endemic.
