NECO Boss Appeals For Staff Cooperation

neco_boss_appeals_for_staff_cooperation[2]The Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof. Promise Okpala, has solicited the cooperation of workers of the establishment to move the organisation forward.
Okpala told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja that the appeal was also the New Year message he gave to the workers when he addressed the council’s congress on Jan. 14.
He said that if the council hoped to fulfil its mandate, all hands must be on deck to deliver “because everyone is important to the operations of NECO in carrying out its responsibilities to the Nigerian public.
“We need to work together for the greater good of this country, this is very important as in-fighting has not been known to produce any result.
“What I am doing is extending an olive branch to all and in my address to them I told them that `let by-gones be by-gones.
“Experiences have shown that there is no gain creating tension in a work place as it hampers effective operations of such a place.”
The registrar was speaking against the backdrop of the crisis between some staff of NECO and the management over the legality of the registrar’s tenure, staff transfers and union matters that rocked the council.
The registrar had in 2012, ordered the transfer of 200 staff from the headquarters to zonal and state offices, a development that culminated into a peaceful demonstration by the affected members of staff at the council’s headquarters.
Okpala said it was management’s hope that all aggrieved parties should come together to ensure an effective workforce that would contribute positively to national development.
He said that with the result from the congress and the attitude of the members of staff this year, there were signs of favourable work environment for all this year.
“I want to appeal to staff to be open to dialogue at all times and to ensure that everything is done according to laid down procedures,” he stated.
According to him, NECO on its part will ensure that it puts in place a structure of work that will be conducive for all, while making staff welfare a top priority in the coming years.
He said the current accreditation exercise by the council was a pointer to management’s commitment to ensuring that members of staff were carried along in NECO’s operations. (NAN)
