Customs seizes $355,685 from China-bound passenger


Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos have arrested an China-bound passenger with the sum of $355,685 at the flagship airport.

The Public Relations Officer of the Customs at the airport, Mrs. Thelma Williams, said the passenger, identified as Okonkwo Onyeka Nonso with passport number A03515894, could not explain the source of the money.
She, however, noted that the suspect declared the said amount to the Customs currency seat officers at the airport.
Williams said Customs officers on duty counted the money and found out it was $317,300, although the passenger declared the sum of $355,685.
According to him, the passenger is currently in the custody of the Customs and will be handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for further investigation.
