Don’t rule out amnesty for Boko Haram – Muslim Students Society of Nigeria

boko-haramMuslim Students Society of Nigeria, B-Zone, on Wednesday in Lagos urged President Goodluck Jonathan not to rule out amnesty for Boko Haram members.
MSSN said such amnesty might lead to the resolution of insecurity in the country.
National leader, MSSN, Alhaji Kunle Sanni, who spoke at NUJ House, Ikeja, said the Boko Haram leaders were not ghosts and would come out from their hiding if the Federal Government was willing to offer them amnesty.
He said the Niger Delta militants were formerly operating secretly before they were offered amnesty.
Sanni said the sect members were not faceless but were only afraid of being killed by the government if they surrendered.
He said, “We cannot continue to have innocent blood being shed on daily basis. Many of our leaders have suggested that amnesty be granted to them, I think that would have to be done to have result.”
“Before the introduction of amnesty by Federal Government, the militants did not also come out from their creeks; they operated behind the scenes and with their faces covered but when the idea of amnesty was introduced, they all came out to lay down their arms.
“The MSSN strongly believes that the spate of bombings might be a thing of the past if amnesty is given to them.”
Sanni also said governments at all levels should be guided by the 1999 Constitution on the usage of Hijab by Muslim women and girls.
Earlier, the Zonal Coordinator of MSSN, which comprises 17 Southern states, Ahaji Mushafau Alaran, urged both the Federal and state governments to ensure that personnel working with them adhered strictly to the provisions of the constitution.
Alaran said, “We have discovered that oftentimes the staff of commissions and agencies of governments that handle issues bordering on data capturing don’t show respect for religious rights in the discharge of their duties.
“For instance, asking Muslim women to remove their Hijab before their faces could be captured is baseless.”
He called on the authorities in the education sector to caution school teachers and heads to stop the molestation of female students who had chosen to wear Hijab.
