Suspected gunmen on Sunday bombed many places in Ringim town in the Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Witnesses told NAN the incident happened around 8.45 p.m.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the state’s Police Command, Abdu Jinjinri, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed the incident to NAN in an interview in Dutse.
“Nobody can, for now, say anything about the person responsible for the bombing,’’ he said.
Mr. Jinjiri however explained that the incident had created serious tension in the town.
“A detachment of mobile policemen has been dispatched to the area to restore peace,” he said.
The PRO promised that the police would continue to ensure the protection of lives and property of innocent citizens in the state in the course of maintaining peace and order.
NAN gathered that as at the time of filing the report the town was still under heavy attack.
Places torched by the gunmen’s fire, according to reliable sources, include the former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Hafizu Ringim’s house, the Divisional Police Command and some other houses.
