Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has appealed to the
Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, to help secure crude oil
pipelines in the state in order to ensure an uninterrupted supply of
petroleum products in the country.
The new Managing Director of Port Harcourt Refining Company, a
subsidiary of the NNPC, Mr. Ian Udoh, made this appeal on Wednesday when
he paid a courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House in
Port Harcourt.
Udoh identified pipelines vandalisation as one of the challenges
facing Port Harcourt Refining Company, adding that the development was
disrupting the normal supply of petroleum products.
He said, “This is the greatest threat to the existence of refining in
this country, also to the Port Harcourt Refining Company and its
operations. The crude oil supply pipelines have been under a spate of
unprecedented attacks in recent times and products evacuation pipelines
suffer similar threats.”
Udoh explained that the Port Harcourt Refining Company was until
recently producing six million litres of petrol per day and 17 million
litres of other petroleum products daily.
