Wenger could end 17-year reign in north London with Paris St-Germain to make move

Arsene Wenger has already agreed a summer move to take over as manager of Paris St Germain, according to Tuesday’s papers – and he could be bringing Cristiano Ronaldo in to join him.
The Daily Telegraph reports: “PSG’s most senior figures have been telling members of their circle that Wenger has been persuaded to leave north London after 17 years in charge of Arsenal.
“Their least optimistic scenario is that he will move to Paris in the summer of 2014 when his current deal at Arsenal expires. But PSG’s owners have sounded adamant in recent days that they can tempt him to cross the channel 12 months early…. The club’s proprietors have told friends that Wenger is on his way to Paris.”
It’s worth bearing in mind that this is no idle tabloid gossip: the journalist behind the story, Paul Hayward, is one of Britain’s most respected football columnists. Mind you, you might have said the same about Oliver Kay of The Times before he was duped into printing a bogus story about a non-existent league a few weeks ago.
Incumbent PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti has apparently already told the club that he will leave in the summer, clearing the way for the move.
But as stunning as it would be to see Wenger move on after almost two decades at Arsenal, it would be even more stunning if The Sun’s top story appears to be true: PSG have made an £80 million bid forReal Madrid’s unsettled superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
PSG will have a battle on that score, however: Manchester United are still keen on signing the 28-year-old, and will offer £65m plus a player – most likely Nani - to try and get a deal off the ground.
United apparently thought they would have a clear run at bringing Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, and they are slightly miffed about the competition: “United are not happy now PSG have made their move with a substantial offer. They will not give up, however, and have told Ronaldo’s agent of their intent.”
It seems that the Red Devils are still favourites, however: the player himself would apparently prefer a return to Manchester than a move to Paris (where he would have to fight the likes of David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for that all-important spotlight), while his sponsors Nike would much rather he went to United.
West Ham have decided not to push ahead with a permanent deal for Andy Carroll, accoring to the Daily Mirror.
Instead, the Hammers will target Everton striker Nikica Jelavic. West Ham have apparently decided the £17m price tag on 24-year-old Carroll is simply too high.
The Mirror also claims Tottenham will offer Blackpool £6.5m for winger Thomas Ince, son of Paul, who has found the net 18 times in the Championship this season.
And finally, Manchester City are trying to set up a new club in the MLS, with the Independent claiming that they have agreed a £65m deal to set up a new franchise in New York.
Apparently the franchise “would give the owners a huge commercial opportunity to begin aggressively pushing the City brand in New York – where the notion of a presence for the club was first floated by former chief executive Garry Cook three years ago” and “also create the chance to develop young players for City.”
