About 3,000 local government workers have been compulsorily
retired by the Benue State government, even as efforts were being made
by the government to borrow N7 billion from commercial banks to pay
retired staff their accumulated pensions in the state.
Chairman of the Benue State Local Government Service Commission, BSLGSC, Comrade Richard
Gbande who made this known in an interview with newsmen in Makurdi,
said that those affected had either attained the mandatory 60 years
retirement age or 35 years in service in the 23 local government
councils in the state.
