By Henry Umoru, AbujaSENATE President Senator David Mark, Friday pleaded with Nigerians from all walks of life not to give up in their belief in the unity of the country, just as he stressed that the country was indivisible.
Senate President Mark who spoke when he visited Agatu, Apa and Ohimini local government areas in Benue South Senatorial of Benue State during this year’s thank you constituency tour in the district, noted that through fervent prayers and supplications to God, the nation will overcome, adding, “We are all partners in progress of our dear country. This country belongs to every one of us, so we should not let it fail.
”We should stand firm and rally our support round all our leaders in order to succeed in their endeavour. It is when they succeed that we can talk of development and peaceful co-existence among various ethnicities in the country.
”Our prayers are paramount at this particular period in our land. We should pray for stability, peace and progress. We should pray for our leaders and Nigeria to continue to be an indivisible nation.”
According to a statement by the Senate President’s Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh, he was represented by his wife, Mrs. Helen Mark and was overwhelmed by the turn-out of people from the three local councils visited on the first day of the three-day visit.
He urged the people not to relent in their prayers for Mr. President, the Vice President, Senate President and other leaders at every level of governance, adding that the people should believe in the present administration of President Goodluck Jonathan saying, the Transformation Agenda was poised to bring Nigeria out of the woods.
In separate remarks, the Chairmen, Agatu, Apa and Ohimini local government areas, Stephen Dutse, Oyi Owoicho and Sunday Mark respectively thanked the Senate President for his gesture at reaching out to the needy during the festive period, just as they assured him of their unalloyed support and prayed God to continue to guide him in the onerous task of building a prosperous Idoma nation.
According to the statement, during the first day of the visit, 110 bags of Rice and N200, 000 were distributed to each of the three local government areas in the Constituency for the festive season. Other councils to be visited are, Ogbadibo, Okpokwu, Ado, Oju, Obi and Otukpo all in Benue South Senatorial district.
