Civil Society Coalition has petitioned the Inspector General of Police,
Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, over the shooting of a naval officer, Mr.
Kehinde Ojo, on December 20, 2012, by an Assistant Superintendent of
Police in Osogbo.
Coordinator of the group, Mr Wahid Lawal, on Wednesday decried the shooting of Ojo, when he was on holiday in Osogbo.
The coalition comprises Committee for the Defence of Human Rights,
Committee for Democracy and Rights of the People, Justice Now
Foundation, Peoples Welfare League and Center for Good Governance.
Other groups within the coalition are Independent Masses Forum,
Movement for Peoples Rights, Centre for Constitutional Governance,
Justice Action Forum, League for Civic Action and Movement for Social
Justice..
Ojo had claimed that the ASP shot him on the ankle without justification when he was coming in company with two friends.
But Lawal said, “If the naval authorities had behaved like the
policeman, there could have been another disaster in the state. We call
for a full investigation into the shooting.”
