Emulate Obasanjo, Oni tells leaders

Olusegun-ObasanjoNational Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in South- West, Segun Oni, has urged political leaders to emulate former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s initiative in building strong institutions in the country. Oni, who represented the former President at a lecture to mark the 10th anniversary ofRadio Nigeria, Progress FM, stated this on Wednesday in Ado Ekiti.
The institutions Obasanjo built while in power, Oni said, still thrived after he had left office.
Oni said, “Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is unavoidably absent. He would have been here but he is away to the United Kingdom where he has gone to for the inauguration of the Obasanjo Foundation.
“That shows that he is loved and respected everywhere. He is a leader worthy of emulation. People should build institutions because institutions live after government.
“This station (Progress FM) was established when he was in the office. He also created many NTA stations and some states even have three.”
Oni explained that the former President established some of these institutions because he knew the importance of communication, which he added, was vital for the mobilisation of the people.
Governor Kayode Fayemi, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Mr. Kola Ajumobi, lauded the management of the radio station for being professional and unbiased in dissemination of information.
Fayemi said his administration cherished transparency, noting that this was why it domesticated the Freedom of Information Bill and signed the Fiscal Responsibility Bill into law.
