Five injured, eight trailers burnt in separate accidents

Five persons sustained injury in an accident that occured  in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, Friday when an 18- seater Toyota Hiace Hummer bus somersaulted and ran into a fence. Also in another incident, not less than eight trucks got burnt in a fire incident that gutted the premises of the Gateway Portland Cement factory at K6, Abeokuta-Lagos road Abeokuta.
According to an eyewitness, the first accident  occurred about 11:35 am at Oke- Ilewo, Abeokuta leaving   five people seriously injured.
The source further said  that the bus with registration number (Abuja) BR437GWA and the inscription “Federal Assisted Mass Transit Scheme” was coming  from Ibadan heading to Ota in Ogun State before the incident.
The injured  passengers  were immediately taken to the General Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta in an ambulance vehicle with registration number CD 041A01  by Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, (NSCDC) .
It was gathered  that the accident occurred due to brake failure and that the driver of the bus had taken to his heels immediately after the accident occurred.
Meantime, saturday vanguard learn that the fire incident that occured along Abeokuta-Lagos road  was alleged to have been caused by those suspected to be burning bush around the factory.
The incident was said to have  started around 12pm and lasted for four hours during which eight abandoned trailers parked in the premises were razed down.
Speaking with newsmen at the scene of the fire, an Import Manager of the company, Mr  Festus Sunday described the fire incident as mysterious, stressing that nobody could ascertain the cause of the fire.
Also, speaking on the development,an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) from Ewekoro local government area of Ogun state, Sodiq Owolabi  said the Corps quickly mobilised its rescue team in ambulance vehicle with registration number CD 104 AO 1 to the scene.
