PDP In Merger With Police, INEC and Judiciary – Buhari

While the opposition parties are merging to form the All Progressive Congress (APC), the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is already in a merger with the police, the Independent National Electoral Commission and the judiciary, former presidential candidate of the Congress  for Progressive Change (CPC) General Muhammadu Buhari has said.
Others that are also in merger and alliance with the PDP, according to the former head of state, include the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the pension fund.
Buhari spoke yesterday during CPC’s interactive dialogue with its elected representatives in Abuja. The merger of opposition parties, said Buhari, who is the chairman of CPC’s Board of Trustees, would go a long way in bringing bad governance in the country to a halt.
Buhari said that the merger of the CPC, All Progressives Grand Alliance and Action Congress of Nigeria was necessary because the political history of Nigeria shows that, to hold power at the centre, there is need for a broad coalition, alliance or merger, more so that the PDP is abusing power and governance in the country.
He said, “Today’s situation is no different. The country is in the grip of a bad government whose only purpose is to retain power by hook or by crook – preferably by crook. PDP does not need merger or alliance – they are already merged and are in alliance with the police, INEC, and judiciary with the NNPC and pension funds.”
Addressing its legislators, Buhari said that it is only in CPC that the legislators were genuinely elected and not rigged into office. Buhari said, “You were actually elected. You did not use police to intimidate voters; you did not use INEC staff to inflate your votes. You won in spite of all attempts by government to rig you out. How many PDP can say that? Very, very few! You can, therefore, hold your heads high and regard yourselves as genuine representatives of your constituents. You are true sons of democracy; your position is even more important than party officials and party leaders because you are the face of CPC.
“The call to duty for you today is to regard yourselves as the arrowhead of this movement. And, therefore, act with speed and purpose to reach our goal. Without your leadership and effort, our fight for democracy will not succeed. Each one of us in this hall should regard himself as part of the great movement to come together and unseat the PDP,” General Buhari charged.
Nasarawa State governor Tanko Al-Makura, who spoke at the function, said that the merger of the CPC with other progressives was the best thing if the PDP had to be shoved from power.
Al-Makura described as untrue the story that the Progressive Governors’ Alliance has usurped the functions of the larger merger group, saying that its role remained advisory.
