Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, has said the state is leading the revolution for gender equality in the country.
Akpabio stated this in Uyo after the swearing-in of Mrs. Valerie Ebe as his deputy on Saturday.
He said, “Though gender was not a consideration in
her appointment, a section of the public would definitely see her as
being in the vanguard of our faith for more women participation in our
governance.
“By her appointment, we now have a triumvirate of
women in key positions like the Chief Judge, Head of Civil Service and
the Deputy Governor. Akwa Ibom is definitely leading the revolution for
gender equality in our country.
Akpabio, who said Ebe had served the state with distinction, added that she was a woman of integrity.
He, therefore, enjoined her to bring the attribute to bear on her new office.
The governor also thanked the Speaker of the state
House of Assembly, Sam Ikon, and other lawmakers for the speedy
confirmation of Ebe’s appointment.
He urged people of the state to extend to the new
deputy governor the same cooperation and support, which they have given
to him since he assumed power.
He said, “‘The partnership for change between my
administration and the good people of the state is still on. The change
of baton in the Office of the Deputy Governor is nothing more than a
shift of gear. I believe that, everything considered, we will run faster
in the pace of our development.”
Akpabio later commended Ebe’s predecessor, Mr. Nsima Ekere, who resigned from office last week for his services to the state.
