Some
unknown Gunmen yesterday shot dead a member of the Kano State House of
Assembly, Ibrahim Abba Garko, two others at Unguwa Uku Quarters of the
state’s metropolis.
Until his death, the late lawmaker represented the Garko Constituency in the Kano House of Assembly.
Narrating the circumstances leading to the lawmaker’s death, an
eyewitness told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY that two gunmen trailed the deceased
to a shop at Unguwa Uku quarters where he was relaxing with his friends
and shot him to death at about 7.30pm.
The source added that the deceased was pursued by the two suspected
gunmen who came on a motorcycle and opened fire on him and two others
fled immediately.
The source said, “The attackers shot him on his head and chest,
leading to his instant death even before he was rushed to the hospital”.
It was also gathered that immediately the gunmen shot the deceased,
they fired several shots to scare people around and later fled the area
before the arrival of security operatives.
Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State
Command, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, stated that the state command had begun an
investigation into the matter in order to arrest the culprits.
Idris, who stated this during a telephone interview with LEADERSHIP
SUNDAY yesterday, added that the deceased was killed in front of a shop
while relaxing with his friends.
He also stated that though the Kano lawmaker could not survived from
gunshots by the gunmen, he added that his friends survived the attacks.
According to the commissioner of police, investigation on the
incident is ongoing, saying that the police will arrest the culprits in
due course.
