9 Dead, 11 Injured In Osun Auto Crash


No fewer than 9 persons died while 11 others were injured on Thursday in a motor accident on the Gbongan-Ile Ife Road in Osun.
A witness said that the accident occurred around 1.30 p.m. opposite the Gbongan Community High School, Gbongan. The accident involved a commercial bus marked XA 477 MAP and a truck marked XA 585 ALK which collided. It was reportedly caused by over-speeding by drivers of the two vehicles.
Frantic efforts made by symphathisers to rescue the victims failed to yield positive results, as some of them died on the spot, while others had their head severed from the mangled bodies.
The Sector Commander of the Osun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Imoh Etuk, confirmed the accident. He said:”Preliminary investigation showed that the accident was caused by over-speeding by the drivers.The number of people involved in the accident are 20. There were 12 females, five males, one male child and two female children. The total number of people who died is nine and these include six female adults, two male adults and a child.”
