Gov. Mimiko Presents N151bn Budget Estimate To House Of Assembly
Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has presented a budget estimate of N151 billion to the state’s House of Assembly for the 2013 fiscal year, promising aggressive job creation for the youths. Mimiko said on Monday in Akure that N73.35 billion of the budget was for recurrent expenditure while N77.65 billion was for capital expenditure.
He said that the government’s major focus in 2013 would be an aggressive drive at job creation for the teeming youths through innovative and durable programmes that would engender sustainable livelihood.
The governor said the 2013 financial projections represented a decrease of three per cent over the 2012 budget presentation of N156 billion, broken into N69.01 billion as recurrent and N86.99 as capital expenditures.
“To accelerate the pace of development in the state, we shall implement a portfolio of strategic programmes directed at enhancing the quality of life of the citizens,’’ Mimiko said.
He said the state government would reform the public financial management, complete and deliver the on-going projects, consolidate and expand qualitative education strategy.
Mimiko said that the government would ensure food security in the state through expansion and replication of model farms, coupled with the provision of agricultural inputs for mass food production.
After delivering his budget speech, tagged “Caring Heart Budget”, Mimiko presented the 2013 Appropriation Bill to the speaker, Mr Samuel Adesina. Adesina said that the legislators would discharge their legislative duties accordingly as members of an arm of government and direct representation of the people.
“We appreciate you and we say thank you, we also appreciate the Deputy Gov. Alhaji Ali Olanusi, government officials and everybody here present at this budget presentation, thank you all for coming,’’ Adesina said.
