Nigerians Have Lost Confidence In Jonathan, Says CPC
The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has taken a swipe at the current Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led Federal Government, saying it has lost the confidence of Nigerians.
CPC in a statement made available by its National Publicity Secretary, Engineer Rotimi Fashakin and made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday said the loss of confidence in the regime stems from the fact that it had not demonstrated quality leadership that would transform the lives of the people for the better.
Fashakin in the statement wrote that “It is doubtful if the President truly believes that Nigerians can trust him on this one (that the new year would be different from the last) after many broken promises in the past one year and sheer unwillingness to assuage the cruelty unleashed on them by his administration’s lethargy and incompetence.”
He accused successive civilian governments under the PDP as having mismanaged the nation’s trust and resources in the last thirteen years of civil rule saying the country had been witnessing unprecedented scale of corruption and official profligacy.
“Indeed, this President and his forebears in the ruling behemoth have collectively mismanaged – in the last thirteen years – the hopes of Nigerians and brought the Nation into impecunious status through unprecedented corruption and profligacy,” the party wrote in the statement.
Appraising the year 2012, CPC in the statement said the sum of N2.67 trillion and N1.05 trillion said to have been spent on fuel subsidy in the last two years has exposed the ruling party as creating a pipe drain in which the scarce resources of State are siphoned into private pockets of cronies and acolytes of the regime.
“The conundrum that this Administration has brought the Nation is that: any increase in world crude oil Price would not translate into the prosperity of Nigeria and her Citizens. The administration of the fuel subsidy, under the regime, has become a phenomenon in legendary opacity and monstrous corrupt tendencies.” The statement reads.
Also, the party carpeted the current administration as having demonstrated lack of capacity in tackling the myriad of insecurity challenges that have plagued the country, saying “After each deadly bomb blast- with attendant fatalities- it had become a regular template of Presidential response to listen to assurances of investigation and security cover for all under the Nation space.”
