No plan to increase accommodation fee in UI
University of Ibadan Vice-Chancellor Isaac Adewole has denied plans by the school to increase accommodation fee. Meanwhile, the 2012/2013 academic session at the university is scheduled to begin on January 14.
Adewole, in a statement on Sunday, said, “This was the position of the university management following a stakeholders’ meeting held with leadership of the Students’ Union on December 18, 2012.”
The VC said accommodation fee would remain at N14,000, though the students’ union leadership agreed to an increase from N14,000 to between N20,000 and N22,000 per session.
Adewole said UI would continue to subsidise accommodation fees for students.
The statement added “The accommodation fee for the 2012/2013 academic session will not be increased as being speculated.
“As a way of boosting the provision of decent meal on campus, the university has resuscitated the cafeteria system which will allow for competent caterers to provide decent meals at affordable prices.
“In this regard, the students have been warned not to bring cookers to the halls of residence.”
