17 Die In Ibadan, Kogi Road Accidents

dead death accidentNo fewer than 17 passengers have lost their lives in two auto crashes on Ibadan-Ife road and Ankpa- Lokoja expressway.
The Ibadan incident, LEADERSHIP SUNDAY learnt happened at Asejire, opposite Nigeria Bottling Company in Egbeda local government area of Oyo State and claimed 11 lives.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Egbeda Unit Commander, Akinlade Abiodun, who confirmed the accident in Ibadan, said that seven other passengers sustained injuries.
He attributed the accident to the tiredness of the driver of the 14-seater Hummer Bus with registration number XB 130 SUA Ondo who allegedly sped off the road before hitting a stationary truck.
According to him, the victims died on the spot and their corpses were taken to Oluyoro Catholic Hospital, while the injured were rushed to a hospital in Gbagi area.
Less than four hours after eight persons died at the Zariagi end of Lokoja in a road mishap, six others lost their lives in another auto crash at Ofoke on Ankpa Lokoja expressway.
The accident involved two buses, a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number ENU 633 XB while the second bus was burnt beyond recognition.
A survivor said the accident occurred due to reckless overtaking by one of the drivers of the vehicles which resulted in a head-on collision. He said six persons died on the spot while one passenger sustained serious injury.
The state sector commander of FRSC, Muhammed Garba, blamed the accident on over-speeding and violation of speed limit by the drivers.
He said 14 persons were involved in the accident with six deaths while one sustained injury, adding that among the dead were four male and two female adults.
