1004 Estate resident move to forestall closure

Residents of 1004 flats in Victoria Island, Lagos are set to meet to pay their outstanding Land Use Act (LAU) to the appropriate authorities so as to forestall an indefinite closure of the estate as threatened by the state government.
According to a source among the management cadre in the estate who spoke with Saturday Tribune under a condition of anonymity, modalities are being put in place so as to ensure that all necessary charges are paid.
The source revealed that soon after the debacle that occurred earlier in the week, which made the gates of the estate to be shut for several hours by officials of the state Ministry of Finance, the management of the estate had swung into action so as to ensure that the grace giving them to pay the outstanding LUC was not wasted.
It is recalled that on Monday week, officials of the state Ministry of Finance sealed off the 1004 estate for about five hours, locking out residents and visitors, as well as trapping some others inside the estate, because of outstanding 2011 and 2012 LAU. However, after an agreement was reached, the gates were opened to traffic.
